I am delighted to announce that I have started work on the planning schedule for a maritime heritage themed event in August this year, on behalf of the Shetland Amenity Trust.
This will be similar to Shetland Boat Week, but on a smaller scale, as the main Festival event will be evaluated and planned fully for a return in 2019. Think of it as Boat Weeks little brother!
All the main elements will still be included such as the opportunity to get on the water in the Shetland Museum and Archives replica Sixareen, Vaila Mae. The full event programme will be released very soon, with the main program of activities taking place from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th August. Planning is under way for sailing and rowing opportunities during the week in the lead up to the weekend, as well as an outdoor display of traditional boats on Hay’s Dock in Lerwick.
